Actor,actress?

Well My Drama teacher said that they don't use actress anymore,,,,,,now it's just actor, for both s*x.

I want to know, is it actor for both s*x's....or still actress and actor.

Either way is correct but instead of saying "Who is your favourite actor or actress?" its quicker to say who's your favourite actor.  The words actor and actress are used separately when someone is presenting an award or receiving one. Its more formal to say "actress and actor" than "actor".

Your dramma teacher is right, but just because

someone said this or that, does not make it right!

i like others prefer the term actress as i know i am

talking of a female who practices that art not a male.

Technically actor is correct. But some people still prefer actress. Btw, on film and in television, they are referred to as the 'hero' character to distinguish from other smaller roles, and extras.

E.g. "is the hero costume for scene twelve still in wardrobe?"

they say Actor now, but I still say Actress and Actor :)

People use 'actor' for both genders. But also, people still use 'actress' and 'actor'. It's all up to the person saying it.

Gender should only be used in reference to Oscar or Emmy type nominations and other times when male/female need to be differentiated but the term "actor" is no longer gender specific and I'm cool with calling a woman an actor. This also isn't anything new.

apparently everyone is 'an actor' but, I noticed on the Academy Awards this year that a recently deceases 'actor' was referred to as an 'actress'...

actress is just a way that women can be recognized differently.

I have heard that too, i just use actor fro both male and female, cuz its just easier.
