Actor looking for work, need advice!?

Question

I'm an aspiring actor living in L.A., and currently have very little experience. The best advice I've been given regarding getting acting work has been sites like backstage.com, exploretalent.com, and craigslist.com.

I'm very skeptical of anything that asks me for money. Are these good sites to use? Is there a better way to get acting (camera, not theater) work? Thank you for the help!

There are 6  things you need to do to become a successful actor:

1: Get an agent

2. Join the union

3. Hire a publicist

4. Prepare a professional portfolio

5. Get used to rejection

6. Grow a thick skin
