Ring immigration in Sheffield and be sure to have the following information at the ready: -

Passport number; Date of Birth; Proof of Posting number/date

From that information they can track your application. I am slightly puzzled as to why you sent your passport, EEA members don't need to send it except to register (worker registration scheme) and that only applies to the new EEC member states.

Failing that you can always contact the local Law Centre, CAB or  your local MP and ask for their assistance.

Often the Home Office fall behind with applications but they do admit this and tell you how far behind they are - it's never been 6 months!
