how is bell's palsy diagnosed in traditional chinese medicine, specifically acupuncture?

  1. have no idea about acupuncture but bells palsy is one of those things that can be seen and felt (or rather loss of sensation)

    The face (usually only one side ) starts drooping and feels full of novacaine.

What is recognizable as Acupuncture and Chinese medicine systems started to develop in mainland Asia roughly 3000 years ago.  One of the foundational texts, The Huang Di Nei Jing, or "Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor", is one of the oldest recognized texts on Chinese medicine, dated most commonly between 200BC and 100BC.  It formulates and structures a lot of the philosophical basis of Chinese medicine theory.

    Bell's Palsy is diagnosed like any other disease pattern in Chinese medicine.  The practitioner looks at the symptoms, the physical manifestations, tongue, and pulse to arrive at a pattern diagnosis.  A common pattern presentation (but by no means the only) in Bell's Palsy is Wind-Cold pattern that invades/obstructs of the meridians associated with the head and face.

  3. By following the roots of acupuncture we can see that archeologists have found remnants of the medical practice. These remnants were found in the form of Hieroglyphs in cave dwellings and date back to one thousand years before Jesus Christ was born, making them 3,000 years old.

    Looking even further than this, there is evidence that acupuncture was used thousands of years prior to the archeological finds mentioned.
