Adam Blythe of BMC Racing Team made a good comeback during the opening stage of the Tour of Qatar 2012
Adam Blythe of Team BMC had a disappointing start to his 2012 campaign at the Santos Tour Down Under. The cyclist finished at the bottom after the final general classifications of the Santos Tour Down Under and claimed the 127th position.
The 22-year-old put the disappointment behind and came strong at the Tour of Qatar. He finished second during the opening stage of the race and eased a lot of pressure off his shoulders.
Blythe was targeting the white jersey at the race and he is looking in a pretty good shape to achieve the set goals for the season ahead.
He came close to the victory during the opening stage but could not overcome the in-form Tom Boonen.
He commented, “I was close to winning but couldn’t quite find a second push to get me there but second is better than third, isn’t it? So I can’t really complain. I was in the second echelon, which wasn’t too stressful”.
Adam continued, “We could always see them as they were only about 10 seconds ahead. I was just trying to save as much energy as possible as we all knew that we would come back together”.
The British cyclist is looking ahead at the Team’s Time Trial stage 2 of the race and is hopeful to continue his dominance at the white jersey during the 11.3 kilometre stage 2 of the race.
Belgian rider, Tom Boonen won the race in the quickest time of 3 hours, 11 minutes and 32 seconds.
Peter Sagan, Tyler Farrar and Daniel Oss claimed the third, fourth and fifth positions in the respective order.
Adam Blythe, Peter Sagan and Daniel Oss were the top three young riders of the day.
Tom Boonen, Adam Blythe and Tyler Farrar secured a maximum number of 15, 12 and 10 points after the point’s classifications.
Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step is currently leading the team’s classifications, with Team Liquigas-Cannondale at second and Lotto-Belisol Team claiming the third spot.
Blythe is now aiming at the coming stages of the race and he is now hoping to continue his best form for the coming stages of the race.
