Adam Blythe wins the Binche-Tournai-Binche 2012
Adam Blythe of Team BMC wins the Binche-Tournai-Binche 2012 after his storming performance during the gruelling 200 kilometre Belgian race.
The Britain completed the race in a total time of 4 hours, 16 minutes and 50 seconds to occupy the top podium spot and overcame the race favourites.
Adrien Petit of Team Cofidis, Le Credit En Ligne finished second with the multiple Vuelta a Espana stage winner John Degenkolb at the third spot.
Sebastian Stamegna of Team Farnese Vini-Selle Italia and Dennis Van Winden of Team Rabobank occupied the fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
Timothy Dupont of Team Bofrost-Steria, Maarten Wynants of Team Rabobank Cycling Team, Johnny Hoogerland of Team Vacansoleil-DCM Pro Cycling Team, Gaetan Bille of Team Lotto Belisol Team and Jens Keukeleire of Team Orica GreenEdge achieved the next five positions in the respective order.
Blythe had a slow start to his 2012 campaign and has not secured many victories in the early part of the season.
His only other admirable performance in this year includes a stage 1 victory at the Paris-Correze 2012.
"Quinzi (teammate Manuel Quinziato) did his last effort on the little climb before the cobblestone section and kept it in one line and then Michi (teammate Michael Schär) just went full gas across the cobblestones," said Blythe after crossing the finish-line.
"I attacked with about 700 metres to go, which was a bit risky, but I gave everything to hold it to the line”.
"It's a bit late, but I've finally got some good form now. It's nice to win at the end of the season like this".
Binche-Tournai-Binche was also the return of one of the best stage race cyclist, Andy Schleck who has been out of action since his crash at the Criterium du Dauphine.
Even though he could not finish the race but was looking in supreme form to ride at some of the remaining races of the season.
Andy has missed out on all the major cycling races of the season including the Tour de France, the Giro d’Italia, the 2012 Olympics Games, the Vuelta a Espana 2012 and Tour of Beijing is the only World Tour race he can still ride to earn some points.
