Adam Brown acquires Men’s 50m freestyle gold: Day seven – British Gas Swimming Championships
Two-time Commonwealth medallist, Adam Brown of Hatfield acquired gold medal of the Men’s 50m freestyle on day seven of the 2012 British Gas Swimming Championships at the London Aquatics Centre on Friday, March 9.
The British Championship is subject to complete the Great Britain’s team for the forthcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
The 23-year-old Brown demonstrated his dynamic swim in the single lap freestyle event and pocketed gold medal of the event. With his commendable start, he stayed marginally ahead of his challengers and reached the medal rostrum for gold medal.
With his dazzling performance, Brown captured gold medal of the single lap event by touching the wall in a time of 22.48 seconds. His incredible efforts remained just 0.08 seconds ahead of his subsequent swimmer, Craig Gibbons of Maxwell, who proved his
eligibility for silver medal by producing a time of 22.56 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Simon Burnett of Windsor, who was just a nail away from overwhelming his preceding swimmer and concluded his swim in a time of 22.59 seconds for bronze medal. Burnett remained considerably ahead of his team-member, Robert
Iddiols, who suffered a loss of 0.32 seconds and settled on the finishing end for fourth position by posting 22.91 seconds.
In the meantime, the crowd acknowledged fascinating efforts of Loughborough University’s Francesca Halsall, who dominated the Women’s 50m freestyle semi-final. The 21-year-old Halsall occupied the top qualification spot of the event by submitting a time
of 24.63 seconds.
She remained 0.42 seconds ahead of her teammate, Amy Smith, who qualified into the final round as second best finisher with an effort of 25.05 seconds. Smith remained 0.68 seconds ahead of her team-member, Emma Wilkins, who earned third finest spot of the
event by hitting the wall with an effort of 25.73 seconds.
Subsequently, Sophie Smith of Co Leicester stayed only 0.10 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and entered the final round with the timing of 25.83 seconds.
Furthermore, the session ended after the completion of all events while these finalists fill race each other in their respective playoff, where the top two finishers will confirm their berth to London.
