The captain of Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833, Adam Gilchrist, is disappointed that Azhar Mahmood is still not available for his team in the on-going fifth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The former Australian cricketer feels helpless because this matter has
to be resolved by the Indian government and not by the franchise.
Pakistani players have been ignored by the cash-rich league after its first edition in 2008. However, the former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 all-rounder now holds a British passport due to his wife and that is the reason why he was signed by Punjab.
Punjab has got off to a poor start in the fifth season, and they really need some match-winners who can turn the tables for them, and Mahmood is certainly one of those cricketers. He is ideally suited for the shortest format of the game, as he can change
the course of the game with both the bat and ball.
Gilchrist, who happens to be the coach and captain of Punjab simultaneously, admitted that Mahmood was expected to play a major role for the team, but unfortunately the Indian government has not yet issued him a visa.
"Azhar’s availability depends on the Indian government’s permission. We are helpless in this regard and are waiting for the government’s nod,” Gilchrist said while expressing his disappointment.
The former Aussie wicketkeeper is of the opinion that the batsmen from Punjab have let them down but he does understand that there is still a lot of cricket to be played in the tournament and the Kings XI can surely bounce back in style.
“The top order has failed to deliver in both the matches and that’s one of the areas we have to work on. But there is still a long way to go in the tournament,” he said.
Gilchrist also praised the performance of Indian international, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/P-Kumar-c2143, even though the medium pacer has not picked up many wickets in the current season.
The former Australian cricketer added, “Praveen did a good job against Pune although he went wicketless. He is our leading bowler and I’m happy with him.”
