Kings XI Punjab’s regular skipper, Adam Gilchrist, has lavished praise on compatriot http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJ-Hussey-c1380 for leading the side quite successfully in his absence, as the former recovers from the hamstring strain.
Adam Gilchrist, the 40-year-old KXIP’s full-time captain, had sustained a hamstring injury during a match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Mohali, on April 18. In his absence, Australian middle-order batsman David Hussey led KXIP ably, winning three of their
last five outings, catapulting the side from seventh to fourth spot on the points table.
Under Hussey, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians and one of the tournament favourites Royal Challengers Bangalore.
In their previous match against a formidable Royal Challengers Bangalore side, Hussey fell short of bowling resources after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Harris-c2330 got injured after being hit with the ball. But the Australian managed the available options terrifically, restricting
the explosive RCB line-up to an average total of 158 for 5. Hussey himself delivered two tight overs, conceding just nine runs to curb RCB’s run rate.
In reply, despite losing three crucial wickets in run outs, the tourists managed to win the game on the penultimate ball of the day with four wickets to spare.
While speaking to the media reporters after his side’s four-wicket win over RCB, Gilchrist said that he was impressed with Hussey’s captaincy as well as his individual all-round performance (45 runs off 29 balls, and 2-0-9-0).
"Regardless of the little mix-ups at the end [three Kings XI batsmen were run out], the captaincy today was amazing. To manage his way through our bowling innings [without Ryan Harris who went off injured after being hit with the ball] was a terrific effort,"
said Gilchrist at the post match press conference.
"You could feel the momentum just turn, and getting Chris [Gayle] out helped. To manage the team through that period was terrific leadership and then to come out and play the way he did [scoring 45] was again strong leadership," he added further.
With a 50 percent win ratio in 10 outings, Kings XI Punjab stand at number four on the points table. They will next play http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 Royals at home.
