Adam Gilchrist offered contracts by Big Bash teams after a sparkling hundred in IPL
Former Australian wicketkeeper, Adam Gilchrist, has been contacted by many Big Bash teams to play for them in the T20 tournament in the coming Australian domestic season.
Gilchrist, who is considered as the best wicketkeeper/batsman in the history of the game, retired from international cricket after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 in the Caribbean.
However, the wicketkeeper was offered a lucrative contract by an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Deccan Chargers, and played for them for three seasons.
He was then bought by Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 for the fourth year and he captained the side as well.
Gilchrist said that he did not have any plans of playing competitive cricket after his retirement from international cricket but the IPL has kept him going.
He said, ''If you had said to me three years ago when I retired that I would still be playing cricket now, I would have said, 'You're kidding'. But obviously I have been able to do that through the IPL, so it's odd to be even talking about the concept of
playing”.
The legendary cricketer admitted that he has received a number of offers by Big Bash teams but he is unlikely to accept any of them. He refused the offers because he wants to spend time with his family and the tournament is scheduled near Christmas and New
Year when it is most important to be with his wife and kids.
''The time of year that it is on makes it unlikely for me. One of the main reasons I gave up full-time cricket was because I wanted to spend more time with my family, and that Christmas and New Year period is like gold in that respect. I have had various
approaches from people that are involved in the teams and I've told them that at this stage it is highly unlikely”, Gilchrist added.
The left hander was not in good touch in the fourth edition of IPL but blasted his way back to form with an unbelievable hundred against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the later stages of the tournament.
That innings has forced these big teams to contact Gilchrist who is still a match-winner in his own right.
