Adam Hadwin recalls his last year’s memories at the Canadian Open
The British Columbian golfer Adam Hadwin recalled the memories of his impressive performance in the 2011 Canadian Open, when he tied for the fourth position at the Vancouver’s Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club.
While talking to the reporters at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club for this week’s RBC Canadian Open, he told that he was surrounded by many of his friends and family members at the venue who came to support him on the course.
“Late Friday, it was pretty cool,” recalled Hadwin. “I had a lot of fun with it last year, just because there were so many friends and family out there. It was just a lot of fun being from that area. I’m sure David (Hearn) is going to get the same respect
this week, being from Brantford”.
Hadwin recorded a stunning 66 in the second round of the event last year, following to a 72 in the opening round.
According to him, it was all due to the huge support provided to him by the local golf fans and his relatives who came to see him on the course.
After such a strong start, he seemed to be moving on the right track of becoming the first local player to register a victory in the Open, since Pat Fletcher did it in 1954.
On Saturday, he signed his scorecard with a 68, which took him even closer to the win and people started expecting a home-grown champion after about six decades.
However, he failed to maintain consistency on Sunday and faltered over the opening 11 holes, as he suffered three bogeys and a double bogey, which spoiled his overall score on the leaderboard.
Yet, he managed to make a comeback with a run of three straight birdies. However, it was then too late and Canadian fans went back home without witnessing their favourite player win.
Despite his final-round meltdown last year, Hadwin wants to take only positives out of his performance. He believes that he can use his last year’s experience and can improve his track record in the event.
“I feel like there’s a bit more expectation coming in this year and obviously, people saw what I did last year and might expect something a little bit more,” said Hadwin.
