Adam Jones wants to reach century before retiring – Rugby News Update
Adam Jones, the 31-year-old Wales and Ospreys' prop, wants to retire with a hundred international caps to his name for Wales.
Jones is part of the Wales squad that is going to play a three-match test series against Australia, starting this Saturday, June 9 at Brisbane, with further Test matches at Melbourne on June 16, and Sydney on June 23.
Jones currently has 82 Tests caps, with two of those coming for the British and Irish Lions. He can add to the 80 test caps on the Wallabies tour, and with time on his side, injury permitting, it will be an easy target for him to reach.
He has claimed that he will ‘hold the bat up’ upon reaching the milestone, and he will join an elite group of Welsh players. The latest to do so was Martyn Williams, when he came on as a substitute against the Barbarians, before the Welsh team left for Wallabies'
soil.
He wants to pass the baton to Craig Mitchell, the former Ospreys player who left for Exeter to get more game time and become a regular for Wales.
"I'm a big fan of Craig Mitchell. I was disappointed when he left here [the Ospreys]," said Adam Jones.
"He saw it as the time he had to leave."
"He's an excellent player and he's pushing me pretty hard and it's a case of keeping ahead of him."
"I'm a big fan of his and hopefully if I can get to 100 caps I'll pass the baton on to him and I'll be quite happy to do that," he added further.
Mitchell is not part of the touring squad, as he is out injured.
Jones moved to the Ospreys in 2003 when rugby in Wales was regionalised. His impressive performances earned him his international debut against England at Millennium Stadium, on August 23, 2003. He has won the Six Nations Grand Slam three-times with Wales,
and was part of the team that came fourth at the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
He comes to Australia in good form, and his club, the Ospreys, won the RaboDirect Pro12 league this year as well.
