Adam Jones warns against fatigue – Rugby News Update
Adam Jones, the 31-year-old Wales prop has warned that the Welsh players will be fatigued ahead of their tour of Australia, which starts on the 9th of June. Wales are scheduled to play a three-match test series against the Wallabies.
"It's a long season," Jones told Wales Online. "As nice as it is to go on a three-match tour of Australia, after a World Cup year, it's not great. I'm sure the boys would rather play one or two Tests and then come back home. But three Tests... well.”
The RaboDirect PRO12 semi-finals are scheduled to take place this weekend. Jones’s team, the Ospreys, are playing Munster, and if they win they will progress to the final, just giving Jones a 14-day rest between the final and the first Test against Australia.
It is not ideal for players who have been playing hard all season, and not being able to give the body a rest.
Jones started his career with the Ospreys when Welsh rugby was regionalised and his impressive performances for club, earned him his first Wales call-up in 2003, coming on as a substitute against England at the Millennium Stadium to earn his first test cap.
Success followed Jones, as he cemented his place in the Welsh squad. He has played three world cups so far, in 2003, 2007 and 2011. He was an important member of the Wales team that won the 2012 Six Nations Grand Slam, starting all five matches.
However, he did provide a shining light at the end of the tunnel, by saying, "I guess for the Welsh boys it's a chance to stake a claim for the Lions next year. If you have a good tour you'll show you can do it out there and hopefully knock on from there.
It'll be tough out there, but it's a long season. We'll be able to celebrate after.”
The Welsh team has got a boast ahead of the tour after it was confirmed that their captain Sam Warburton will return to full fitness before the team leaves for Australia. Jones is particularly happy regarding the news, calling Warburton a big part of the
squad.
