Adam Khan, The Proud Pakistani Racer
The eager man could not have waited any more, at the age of sixteen, Adam Khan went for a test-drive of Porsche, which stirred his passion for driving so much that he ended in an intensive five-day driving course at Silverstone soon after. There he enthusiastically took part in the Silverstone School Race Series and was allowed to get his competition license as well.
Adam Khan is the famous British racing driver from a Pakistani family, from Bridlington, Yorkshire who represents Pakistan in the A1 Grand Prix series. He has mastered six international languages fluently including English, French, Spanish, Italian, Urdu, and Mandarin Chinese.
He established his career in the six-race British Formula Ford series, in 2001, when he was successful in achieving runners-up position, along with three podiums while it was only his first season at professional racing.
Only at the age of seventeen Adam Khan’s career was fully on the move. He was an aggressive competitor in various races in the British Formula Three championship, while he was studying at school as well. In the winters of 2002/3 Khan took part in four races at the British Formula Three Series, where he ended as a runner-up. The talented young man was able to end on the podium most of the times whenever he participated in the Formula Three races.
Adam Khan, represented Pakistan in the 2005 season of the A1 Grand Prix when he was selected for the Pakistani A1 Team. The lad proved lucky for Pakistan's Team in the 2005/06 A1 season as he was able to get up to 3rd position at the season opener at Brands Hatch, in a race where almost all the drivers were far more experienced than him. However, it was his bad luck, that wheel nut got stuck during the pit stop which prevented him from a podium result. Also, some more errors during other races that season especially, where Khan was in strong positions had cost him a lot.
Later, in the year 2006, Khan took some time out from racing and proceeded with his business studies attending B.Sc. course at the famous King's College, London.
The patriotic little man has pledged to wear the Pakistan flag in all his races in the future, which he believes to be an important step towards arousing interest of the Pakistani people into the thrilling world of professional motor sports. All his endeavours for his country have been answered by the government as officially appointing him the Ambassador for motor sports in Pakistan. Furthermore, he was also awarded the “Young Achievers Award” by the President of Pakistan on 29 September 2006, during his visit to London.
The World Series by Renault marked his return to the racing world as he teamed with the Italian RC Motorsport, where he was taken as the third driver, after being tested. Meanwhile, he also joined the Pakistani A1 Team at Silverstone for the 2007/08 season.
The sport’s lover had to leave the 2008 GP2 Asia Series after 2 races when he was driving for the Arden team, so that he could concentrate on A1GP as well as his university work.
The 2008 season started hard for the Pakistani, as he had to miss the start of the season at the F3000 Euroseries 3000, but later as he joined in June, he was pleased to have an exciting season marked with three race wins among the twelve races he participated in, ending twice at second places and once at the third place and overall he closed the season in third. The season ended in jubilation for Pakistani race lovers as their national anthem was played for the first time in a European championship event.
In September 2008, he declared to take on the role of race driver as well as seat holder of A1 Team Pakistan for the 2008-09 A1 Grand Prix season.
Later, in the start of the year 2009, he joined the Formula One Series’ team, Renault F1, to demonstrate their Formula One car at the events and presentations carried by the World Series by Renault.
He is one of the greatest Pakistani drivers who would always be remembered in books as the leading stones of sports especially the auto racing world, but that is very unfortunate for his nation as most of the people have even not heard of him ever.
