Adam LaRoche patience about possible contract extension by Washington Nationals-MLB Update
First baseman, Adam LaRoche is not in hurry as he seeks a contract extension from the Washington Nationals. Currently, he is in the free agent market.
While a number of organisations may be interested in him, his demand for a three-year deal is the discouraging factor for potential buyers in the market.
Since the beginning of the free agency, LaRoche is hopeful that he will be awarded the desired deal by some major league franchise.
However, over the last couple of weeks, certain events have happened that must have dented his expectations.
For example, the majority of the buyers are leaving the market after signing contracts with those players that agreed to their offers. As a result, the chances that LaRoche earns a three-year contract have significantly come down.
The situation is rapidly turning into favour of the Nationals, because if none of the teams signs LaRoche, they can approach him from the position of strength.
They can get him to accept their terms and conditions by waiting on a final decision.
The Nationals are closely observing the market trend. They are taking their time before announcing something about LaRoche.
Washington concluded the Baseball Winter Meetings without making any headway regarding the contract renewal of LaRoche.
This shows they are mindful of the way the market is shaping up to their advantage.
The Nationals are reluctant to decide anything before an ideal situation arises that forces LaRoche to renounce his demands.
Interestingly, LaRoche is unwilling to step back even the slightest from his earlier contention in the negotiations. He is bent on fetching a deal that he asked for in the first place.
He appears to be leaving no stone unturned to ascertain that he goes back home with a three-year deal earned from the Nationals before Spring Training.
An uncompromising attitude from both the parties so far can easily result in the failure of the talks.
Unless a drastic change takes place in the market, it seems the Nationals are going to play without their Silver Slugger winner during the 2013 major league season.
LaRoche was outstanding last season. Both at the plate and in the field, his contributions were decisive for the Nationals.
If the Nationals do not pick him for 2013, it will be interesting to see then as to which other organisation he plays for.
