Adam LaRoche reiterates desire to join Washington Nationals-MLB Update
First baseman, Adam LaRoche, has reiterated that he likes to stay with the Washington Nationals.
However, if the Nationals do not show interest in his retention, he will be forced to think on other options.
At the moment, there are a number of organisations eager to sign LaRoche. Earlier, it was reported the Boston Red Sox are trying to obtain LaRoche from the free agency.
The Red Sox are continuing negotiations with him but it remains to be seen as to how much they are offering LaRoche.
If they present a three-year deal along with substantial amount of per year salary before LaRoche, he will sign the contract most probably.
The Nationals will be keeping an eye on the talks of LaRoche with other clubs, because by doing so they can determine the estimated market price of free agent first basemen.
This can also allow them to make sure they do not lose him to any other team at a price, which they could afford, too.
The problem, which stops contract extension of LaRoche by the Nationals, is inability of the club to accede to the asking price of him.
They are hesitant of signing someone, who is ageing, for more than two years.
At 33, LaRoche cannot ensure proper return on investment for the Nationals over a longer time period.
For the same reason, they have not agreed to a contract with him, despite being under negotiations for the last many weeks.
If the Red Sox take away LaRoche from the market, it will be a disappointment for Washington.
LaRoche has hinted that if the Nationals continue their refusal to offer him a three-year agreement, he will not hesitate moving to some other team.
“We’re talking to a few other teams,” LaRoche said. “Got to keep things open in case Washington doesn’t work out. I’m still hopeful that it will, but as you know it takes two sides cooperating to make that happen. I’m doing everything I can.”
The next couple of days will be important with regard to the new agreement of LaRoche.
With some new buyers in the market searching for first basemen, LaRoche has certainly an ideal opportunity to earn a desired deal.
