Adam LaRoche to sit out for two to three games as he hurts his muscle - MLB Update
The Washington Nationals have another hitter sustaining an injury during the game following Ryan Zimmerman suffering shoulder inflammation earlier. This time it is their first baseman Adam LaRoche.
In a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, he leaped off the first base to latch on to the ball and ended up getting his right oblique muscle roughed up.
Initially, the pain was a mild one, but grew severe as moments passed by and finally reached a level that he was to be scratched from the line-up.
He is having a great season so far. In-fact, in the absence of Ryan Zimmerman and Michael Morse, he has been a saviour in the offence.
Hitting .311 and four homers in first month of the season is not a small contribution. Even more impressive is 17 RBIs he led to. In light of this, losing LaRoche from the line-up is a huge setback for the Nationals.
Sources suggest that injury is not that severe and will not take more than few days to heal. Although there is no MRI report as yet, the manager Davey Johnson is fairly confident of his return.
LaRoche believes however in the nature of his injury, which is vulnerable to cause his prolonged sit-outs from the games and feels lucky to have responded to the danger in time. He explains things may have gone worse, if a timely action was not taken.
“I know these [oblique] things can linger,” he said. “I hope we caught it early enough where we can knock it out shortly and get back out there, because obviously the timing couldn’t be any worse.”
He says he was horrified by a sudden toll of his muscle on his actions and how it forced him out of the line-up.
“My last at-bats [Wednesday], in the on-deck circle, I could feel it,” he said. “And [I] really didn’t think anything about it. And then coming in today, it was a lot tighter than it was yesterday.”
Manager will hope that by the time he comes back, he will resume the season just from where he left, as opposed to losing his form and going the other way.
