Adam Larsson has bruised back, New Jersey Devils hopeful for quick comeback -NHL Update
Montreal Canadiens’ defenseman, P.K Subban’s hit on New Jersey Devils’ rookie forward, Adam Larsson, certainly scared the team as the player was helped off the ice after being knocked down and slamming into the sideboards during their matchup on Thursday,
February 2, 2012.
Looking back at the replay, it is clear that the hit by Subban was clean and not targeted at the head or any sensitive spot at all, but it was actually the fall that took its toll on the New Jersey rookie.
"I thought it was a clean hit," Devils’ coach, Pete DeBoer, said.
Initially, it was feared that Larsson was suffering from a potentially serious injury but luckily, after reports and a final diagnosis, it turned out to be a bruised back, raising the New Jersey hopes of the player’s quick comeback.
Larsson is an integral part of the Devils’ team and having him back as soon as possible would be crucial in their playoff run this 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season.
"He's trying to make a difference in the game," DeBoer said of Larsson. "That's his mentality, he's that type of player, so he's grabbing the puck and going with it into tough areas, and he took some hits doing it. I give him full marks. He's a tough kid
just trying to make a difference in an important game."
The 19-year-old was picked up by the New Jersey Devils as the fourth overall selection during round-one of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. So far in his first career season, Larsson has managed to impress the New Jersey Devils by having played in 48 games with
16 points (2 goals, 14 assists) and 18 minutes in penalty time.
With the NHL trade deadline nearing, the New Jersey Devils were and still are expected to be putting their captain, Zach Parise, on the market, which would definitely make many teams put up some bids for a top-level forward.
Having Larsson on the team is important for New Jersey as they hope to bring up new talent into more important roles as the older players slowly move out.
