Adam Lind’s 11th inning run gives Toronto Blue Jays 6-5 win over Baltimore Orioles – MLB Update
Adam Lind’s hit the game-winning homer in the eleventh inning on Tuesday, June 14 to help Toronto Blue Jays overpower the Baltimore Orioles 6-5 in the first encounter of the three-game series at Rogers Centre, Toronto.
"You got some situations where we you get that man on third base and one out, that was a kick in the pants," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "Just so many good things happened to get back in that game. We just couldn't get over the hump."
Tuesday’s game was, for most part, in the Orioles’ hands, but luck was not. Adam Jones provided a good beginning to the team by hitting a sacrifice fly to centre in the very first inning to give the Orioles 1-0 lead.
However, Lind transformed the real form of the game as well, doubled to right in the bottom of the first inning to tie the score.
"I had a couple in the field that I didn't come through," said the disappointed hitter Andino, who was charged with one error in the game. "The pitchers kept us in it we didn't come through when we needed to."
Jose Bautista helped Escobar get the second run on the throwing error by Andino whose disappointment was palpable after the tiebreaking score. Toronto came back hard in the game once Chris Jakubauskas came to pitch in the fourth inning.
Yunel Escobar tripled the score by his single to centre for the Blue Jays as Corey Patterson grounded out to first, enabling Nix to score the fourth run for the Blue Jays. The 4-1 lead did not stay for long as Baltimore bounced back in the seventh.
Andino and Hardy scored a single each to bring the Blue Jays lead down to 4-3 in an inning of Carlos Villanueva that saw two hits as well. Toronto’s Aaron Hill homered to left in the bottom of seventh inning to take the lead to 5-3.
While the Blue Jays seemed in the grip of the game, Orioles’ Matt Wieters scored a two-run homer in the eighth inning on Marc Rzepczynski’s fastball. His homer levelled the score which brought back the Orioles in the game.
The pitchers dominated the game from the eighth inning, as it was Lind who had laid a solid foundation for the team by giving them the first run, homered to right to sore the tiebreaking and match-winning run in the eleventh for the Blue Jays, giving them
a 1-0 lead in the three game series.
