Adam Oates a Great Choice for Alex Ovechkin's Development terms Brett Hull -NHL Update
The Washington Capitals are one of the leading teams of the National Hockey League (NHL), but for the past few seasons, they have failed in breaking a specific barrier, hindering their growth of becoming a Stanley Cup championship winning club.
With the change of coaches for the next regular season, Washington has brought on a veteran in the field and former player who was recently inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, Adam Oates. According to former NHLer and current vice president of the Dallas
Stars organisation, Brett Hull, Oates is a great choice and one which will help their leading player, Alex Ovechkin, “thrive”.
“I’m excited about it but I’m also not really excited about it because he’s going to break all the records,” Hull said with a laugh, according to the Washington Post. “It’s crazy. He’s going to thrive under Oates. There’s just no question. When I played,
Adam was my coach. He told me what we were going to do, when we were going to do it, how we were going to do it and it always worked. He’ll be able to do the same thing with Ovechkin and [Nicklas] Backstrom too.”
There is no doubt in the fact that Alex Ovechkin is one of the best ever forwards the league has seen, but there is still a lot more potential to be unlocked according to experts like Brett Hull. Oates is someone he personally thinks will be able to unlock
it, ultimately not only benefitting the Washington Capitals, but the player himself as well.
Ovechkin was selected as the first overall back in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Washington Capitals. He is also the captain and a left winger who boasts a career total of 553 games played in the North American major league along with 679 points, 339 goals
and 340 assists in total.
Currently, Alex Ovechkin is playing with the Dynamo Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) during the lockout and is on a 13-year mega contract with Washington for a total of $124 million.
He will become an unrestricted free agent by the end of the 2020-2021 regular season.
