Adam Parr: Most likely Maldonado and Barrichello will be in team for 2012 – Formula 1 news
Williams chairman Adam Parr has stated that their drivers’ line-up for the 2012 Formula 1 season will likely be the same as that of 2011.
Parr stated that the young Venezuelan driver Pastor Maldonado has impressed the team with only nine appearances in the car and will likely be with the Williams team for the 2012 season. Although the rookie is yet to score a point in the ongoing 2011 season,
his performances in the qualifiers have been outstanding as he has been able to drag Williams in top ten on numerous occasions in the season.
Parr added that keeping the rookie for only one year is a disaster for both the driver and the team so it is likely that he will remain in the team.
“I always believed - and people derided us and me for saying it - but I think he's a very, very talented driver. What I think he's now began to show is a degree of consistency and maturity that perhaps people didn't expect as well. lesson number one of my
five years in Formula One is, don't sign a rookie for one year because you're just killing yourself,” commented Parr on Maldonado.
As for Barrichello, Parr added that his experience and input is vital for the team and he will remain in the team beyond the 2011 season.
Although previously Williams showed some concern over Barrichello’s inclusion in the team, now they are very much looking forward to it.
Parr stated, “I think everyone has been really pleasantly surprised with him. We are thrilled. Rubens just keeps his head down, and in the races he is there. You need that.”
Williams struggled in the opening part of the season when the nine-time world champion team finished pointless in the opening five races of the season.
Although now Williams have managed to score some points from the Cosworth-powered machines, they will switch to Renault engines for the 2012 season.
