Adam Parr joins hands with Jean Todt on V4 idea and criticise Bernie Ecclestone – Formula 1 news
According to Williams’ chairman Adam Parr V4 engines proposed by Jean Todt for the 2013 season is a good idea for the Formula 1 sport.
Parr added that reinvention is the virtue of Formula 1 and V4 will work well with the modified Kinetic Energy Recovery System.
Jean Todt’s V4 idea was heavily criticised by Formula 1 chief Bernie Ecclestone, but now Adam Parr of Williams along with Ferrari’s Stefano Domenicali has joined hands with the Todt on the idea of V4.
“Formula One is ultimately defined by its technology and Formula One's constant reinvention of itself, whether it's on the chassis side or the engine side, is fundamental to the nature of the sport,” commented Adam emphasising that the people who are against
the idea of V4 are those who seem comfortable and can afford the current technology.
Adam added that the KERS will be more than useful in the V4 engines as he explains its mechanism. He said, “It will have one fan generating electricity to super-charge the engine, another fan to recover energy from the exhausts which will recharge a battery
and then be usable. You are going to have a power train generating well over 800hp from four cylinders.”
Bernie’s idea was that the Formula 1 is for the rich and some small teams will not be able to compete after 2011 season. Adam thinks otherwise that moving to V4 will make smaller teams more competitive because bigger teams will not have an advantage over
any other team.
Independent engine supplier Cosworth have also backed the idea of V4’s because it will guarantee a cut-down in engine costs.
Adam added that the KERS for 2011 was also criticised by many teams but now the teams use it for a great advantage in overtaking.
For now, the V8 engines are being used in a thrilling 2011 season and as far as 2013 are concerned, the teams will decide the future of the Formula 1 sport in coming years.
