Adam Pavlasek halts Pedja Krstin; places berth in round 3 draw – Australian Open (juniors) 2012
On Tuesday, Adam Pavlasek of Czech Republic battled strongly to nail down the Serb opponent, Pedja Krstin, in straight sets 7-6(5), 6-1. The match was played on hard courts in Melbourne, Australia where sizeable crowd was present
to witness the two youngsters take on each other for a place in the round three of the Australian Open (juniors) tournament.
Both players are young in their professional careers. Krstin has just played 16 matches before this whilst his competitor registered his 16th professional appearance in the second round match of the Australian Open (juniors)
tournament.
Teenagers played extremely well and the score line doesn’t do justice to the amount of effort put in by the Serb. He fought hard but his luck was completely running against him. It was a slow start to the match as both players
held their serves in the first five games of the set. Pavlasek didn’t work hard for the vital break in the next game as it was gifted by the Serb.
Krstin committed two unforced errors in the form of double faults that laid the foundation for a breakthrough for his opponent. The Czech gobbled up this chance with two brilliantly guided winners down the line and took the lead.
In the ninth game of the set reverse scenario happened and this time Serb was on top of his opponent, forcing him to commit unforced errors.
Krstin broke serve to push the scores to 4-5. He served the next game to level the scores. Tie breaker round was enforced to decide the set; slight mistake from the Serb in the tie breaker round proved to be suicidal as he lost
the set. Trailing one set down, the Serb looked a bit annoyed with himself and lost composure during the second set.
With three successive breakthroughs in the second set, Pavlasek sealed a place in the third round of the contest. He spared just a single game for his opponent and put up an exciting show that delighted the crowd especially his
coach. If he continues to perform like this he can pull up major upsets as well in the upcoming rounds.
