Adam Pavlasek stuns Luke Saville to enter semis – Boys’ Singles French Open 2012
Seeded 11th in the tournament, Adam Pavlasek from Czech Republic, surprised everyone after shocking the top Australian youngster, Luke Saville, in straight sets at the Boys’ Singles Roland Garros 2012 on Thursday. He manipulated a 6-3, 6-3 victory
against the world number 591 to cruise into the final four at this major clay court tournament taking place in Paris, France.
The high-spirited Pavlasek displayed top class performance to jolt down the top seeded Aussie in their first encounter. After stealing the show in one hour and 14 minutes, the Czech assertively charged into the semi-finals at this second of the four Grand
Slam event held in Paris, France.
Ranked 794th in the South African Airways ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour Rankings, Pavlasek superbly warded off eight out of nine breakpoints he came across and cashed in four out of five break chances to pull out the victory
without facing much trouble. He formulated a lower first serve share of 58 per cent as compared to his rival’s 65 per cent but impressively clicked 26 out of 35 points on it. The Czech also hammered three winners and spilled fewer unforced errors which made
the difference.
Next in queue for the in-form Czech is fifth seeded Filip Peliwo who crippled America’s Noah Rubin with a breadstick to set up this meeting. The seeded Canadian needed an hour-long marathon to trash Rubin in straight sets. He swiped his entire serves after
blocking the lone breakpoint he faced and cashed in all four break opportunities, eventually sealing the match with a 6-4, 6-1 score line.
The sixth seed, Kimmer Coppejans, will accompany Pavlasek in the last four. He lost his serve once but broke Britain's Kyle Edmund serve twice to pull out the opener with a 6-4 success.
The 18-year-old Belgian improved his game in the second set and swiftly pocketed his entire serves without facing any hindrance. He capitalised on two out of five break chances and formulated a 6-3 win.
Coppejans will next face eighth seed Mitchell Krueger who slew Netherlands’ Max De Vroome with a breadstick to progress at this event.
