Adam Scott breaks in the first round of PGA Championship
Adam Scott failed to kick off with an impressive start, as the crowd saw him leave the par-70 Atlanta Athletic Club with a score of 69. The Aussie is competing in the last major of the season after lifting a trophy a week back on the PGA Tour.
The winner of the Bridgestone Invitational stepped onto the course with Steve Williams on his bag. The duo teed off from the back in the morning in an urge of using the soft, moist green to their advantage. However, things did not turn out well for the player
and he had to leave the course with his face facing towards the ground.
The 31-year-old, whose strokes were unmatchable at Firestone, dropped four strokes in the day, out of which three were on the front. The Aussie picked his first birdie on the par-5, 12th, but soon gave it away after facing failure to save par
at the immediate hole.
Things started to give signs of hope later in the day, when he approached the par-3 15th with an iron and conquered it with a beautiful birdie putt. Scott capped the back nine with a 34, which was fair enough for a player at Atlanta.
The worst was yet to come however, when Scott saw the game slip out of his hands at the front, owing to inaccurate putting. The Aussie clamped a birdie in the start, dropped a shot at the third, fired two consecutive birdies starting from the fifth and sealed
the day with twin bogeys on the two closing holes.
Scott captured most of the camera time after Rory McIlroy on the first day. He enjoyed the biggest gallery despite failing to carry his winning impression on the spectators.
However, on his way to the clubhouse, the player said that he was disappointed over his game and admitted that he wasn’t able to brave the extremely thick rough at the course. The Aussie, despite facing a tough day, added that he was hopeful for a much better
performance in the following days.
