Adam Scott crouches to clinch his first major title at the PGA Championship
Just as Graeme McDowell was able to take his Wentworth victory in the US open last year, fans are now asking the same question from the 31-year-old Adam Scott and whether will he be able to win the final major of the season the PGA Championship this week.
Scott is coming out of a comprehensive wire-to-wire victory in the WGC Bridgestone Invitational last week where he took over the strong field by four shots to win his first title for the season. Scott has not won a major event despite of his successive attempts
to reach the summit in the past few years.
“I think the only thing is just kind of the mental and physical letdown after coming down off cloud nine of winning,” Scott said. “I think I’m going to need my energy this week, and by the time Thursday comes around, I think I’ll be able to get myself back
up to compete here at the PGA.”
Scott has already posted some stellar closings in the season including the runners up finish at the Masters earlier in the year alongside his countryman Jason Day. The winner of the 2004 Players Championship, Scott insists that he has been more consistent
with his performance in the season and hopes to bring an end to the major drought he has been facing for a long time.
“The thing that I like about what I’ve learnt from all my years out here is my preparation is a lot more consistent now,” he added.
Scott decided to take rest after his victory at the Firestone Country Club especially amidst all the huge uproar created by his caddie Steve Williams’ outburst after the event. The sturdy Australian is trying not to let his attention and good form be diverted
into petty issues and would allow them to eventually effect his performance at the Atlanta Athletic Club.
However, at the same time, Scott remains reasonably aware of the contribution Williams made to help him lift the title. He is trying to shrug off all the bad atmosphere the event had pulled in and vowed to get back to the sport with the same vigor and spirit.
“I’m just trying to not have big ups and downs, and my practice has definitely been a lot better this year,” he said.
Scott has won 20 professional events in his short career and is one of the most notable Australian players after Greg Norman, and Geoff Ogilvy. He has won nine times on the PGA Tour with his last victory coming at the Shell Houston Open last year. Scott
is currently attracting the highest bets for his bid in the PGA Championship this year.
