Adam Scott awarded ‘Shot of the Day’ in final round: World Golf Championship Bridgestone Invitational
In what could be termed only as an icing on the cake, Adam Scott got awarded the Shot of the Day accolade in the final round of World Golf Championship Bridgestone Invitational, which took place at the par-70 Firestone Country Club.
The 31-year-old Aussie marched to the closing hole at the back to marvel the spectators in the gallery with his accuracy. The eight-time winner on PGA tour teed off with a 3-wood, which covered approximately 210 yards. Making an approach shot towards the
green with a 6-iron, the Aussie made a powerful swing and saw his ball hit the flagstick and stop five feet away from the cup. Scott marched towards the green and rolled his blade for a birdie that took him to a lead of four strokes over Rickie Fowler and
Luke Donald.
Commenting on his shot, the Aussie said that he opted to use a 7-iron for the second shot, but his caddie Steve Williams suggested him to go for a 6-iron, which he did and it paid off.
“A funny one was I was thinking of just dumping it over to the right on the last, hitting a 7-iron over there. And he said, what are you talking about, hit a 6-iron straight at the pin. And I hit a great shot. It was a good call because the better spot to
miss it was left of the hole and not right, and I hit a great shot. He sees those lines and he gets me to go for it. So that's it for the confidence, that kind of stuff,” said Scott, modestly praising his new, and Tiger Woods’ former, caddie Williams.
Scott was superb in putting and he gave the credit to his long putter about which he said that he could not survive without it. The player finished fourth in putting stats as he produced an average of 1.627.
For some, Scott is the next Tiger Woods, since he once shared the same coach, Butch Harmon, and now he has his caddie, Williams. It seems nothing can go wrong for the Aussie at the moment owing to the perfect balance of good from and a great caddie in his
game.
