Adam Scott eyes another major win at the US Open – Golf News
After winning his first major golf championship title earlier this year at the Masters Tournament, Adam Scott of Australia is now set to feature in the US Open, the second major of the season, slated to start from June 13, 2013.
The tournament is set to be staged at the Merion Golf Club, offering a total prize fund of US$ 8 million, to the participants.
Last year, Scott clearly had a chance of joining the league of major winners, when he was having a four stroke lead, entering the last four holes of the British Open. He then bogeyed each of the last four holes and gifted the Claret
Jug to Ernie Els of South Africa.
However, he did not stop working on his game and contended strongly at the Augusta National Golf Club this year, to become the first Australian player to record a victory in the Masters.
Also, he was the 10th Australian to win a major, and first since 2006 when Geoff Ogilvy took home the prestigious US Open.
“It's a good feeling to come here to know that I've achieved that,” he said. “I've got my first Major. I'm looking forward to seeing how I feel playing for the first time in a Major after having won, to see if there's less pressure
or if up I'm going to put more pressure on myself, I don't really know.”
“For me, it's a very exciting time in my career, where hopefully I can make the most of all the things that I've been working for and take advantage of the momentum of winning the Masters and that good form,” he added.
In order to make preparations for the US Open this week, he arrived at the venue course three weeks before the scheduled commencement of the event, in a bid to get himself familiarised with the playing conditions.
Yet, he believes that he will have to work really hard to post low scores and mount a title charge on the weekend.
Webb Simpson, in the meantime, is also back in the field to defend his title that he won last year at the Olympic Club in San Francisco.
