Adam Scott making good use of caddie Steve Williams as Tiger Woods stays off the course
Adam Scott is perhaps the biggest beneficiary of Tiger Woods’ injuries for the moment and is taking full advantage of having Woods’ caddie Steve Williams on his side. Scott and Williams decided to pull in a short term playing contract after Woods’ relentless
vows seemed to linger on endlessly.
It seems that after Woods’ decision to stay put in the US Open and now in the Open Championship, the new relationship between Scott and Williams is maturing well for the season ahead.
“He’s kind of getting the hang of it, yeah, now three rounds in, he might have a future one day, this guy,” Scott said with a smile after an opening 4-under, 66 at Aronimink. “I’ve learned some things off Steve, and he obviously knows how to manage his way
around the golf course with all the people that he’s caddied for over the years. He’s got a wealth of knowledge, and I’m trying to tap as much of that as I can while he’s on the bag certainly.”
Scott has had a brilliant season so far. He posted his most impressive finish ever in any major when he tied for a joint second alongside countryman Jason Day, trailing the leader Charl Schwartzel by two shots.
Williams was not carrying his bag in the Masters and was associated with his previous boss Woods in the tournament. Scott was coming out of a long association with his previous caddie Tony Navarro and the duo had been together for a staggering seven years.
Navarro is considered one of the top-notch caddies in the sport.
Williams, who normally works for Woods, had been looking for an indulgence after his boss decided to opt out of mainstream golf with his misadventure at the Players Championship this year. Woods aggravated his knee injury in the first round of the championship
and had to withdraw from the tournament.
Scott has not won an event so far for the season but has already posted some splendid finishes. He made the cut in eight of the 12 appearance on the PGA Tour and has four Top-10 finishes under his belt. Currently poised at number 18 on the Official World
Golf Rankings (OWGR), Scott has reached the Top-10 in FedEx Cup Rankings previously but has now dropped to 45th.
Scott won his last title in 2010 when he took over the field to win his seventh PGA Tour win at the Valero Texas Open and closed the year with his seventh European Tour win at the Barclays Singapore Open.
The 30-year-old Aussie has 19 professional wins on his belt since the year 2000, when he turned professional, and has the honour of playing all over the world including the Asian Tour as well as the Australasia Tour.
