Adam Scott ready for the defence at Firestone
It is that time of the year when the biggest names in the world of golf are going to gather at one stage for the prestigious trophy, the WGC-Invitational. The venue for this event is the Firestone Country Club, Akron, Ohio.
The PGA Tour heads to Akron on the 2nd of August and being a four-day event, it ends on the 5th of August.
This is going to be one of the most interesting tournaments of the year as this event can drastically change the teams for the upcoming Ryder Cup.
Many players who are going to be playing on this course on Thursday have arrived here so that they can get themselves familiar with the course.
Last year, this tournament was won by the Australian professional golfer Adam Scott. This year Scott will be looking to defend his title against the best players of the world.
Scott has not won any majors till now. Ten days ago, at the British Championship Open, which took place at the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Course, he was about to bag his first major title. Unfortunately, a collapse at the end of last round cost him the
victory.
Entering the last day, Scott was four strokes clear of the second position occupant. The four consecutive bogeys at the end of the last day made his score six-under par and he came second by one stroke.
He said in an interview, “I'm disappointed that I didn't win from that position, but I left that major the same as I've left every other one, and that's empty-handed”.
This came as a big blow to the player. Now he has something to be happy about. The 32-year-old will be defending his title at Firestone.
He is in good form and can pull this off again. After the Open, he has become very determined and would not be leaving anything to chance.
“My game is in really great shape, and I just took a few days to rest up. I certainly analyzed the last few holes a little bit and took out of it what I wanted, then just thought about how great I played,” he added.
