Adam Scott ready to capitalize British Open performance at the PGA Championship
Adam Scott of Australia is confident to make a strong comeback after his British Open defeat when he returns to action at the final major event of the year, PGA Championship, scheduled to start from Thursday, August 9, 2012.
Scott, who was very close to ending the six-year winning drought for the Australians in the major championships, faltered on the final four holes of the Open Championship last month and handed over the victory to Ernie Els.
It was one of the most devastating performances in the history of the sport. His victory was so assured that the tournament officials even stencilled his name on the winner’s medal, which was later changed to Els’ name.
His performance saddened the whole of the Australian nation. However, he does not want his defeat to overshadow his overall performance in the upcoming major event.
In his past seven appearances in the major championships, he managed to record four top-15 finishes, including three top-10’s in his last four appearances.
Therefore, he wants to take positives out of his performance at the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club and utilize it at The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort.
"I have to draw on how good I have played in major tournaments recently," Scott said. "That has to be the way I get my mind focused and back set on how it's been for the other three majors this year. I need to use all the confidence and step out there on
day one and play hard from the start like I did at the Open".
While talking to the reporters, he pointed out some of the names from history and explained how players can utilize their past experiences to make strong comebacks.
He also gave Rory McIlroy’s example, as to how he capitalized his 2011 Master Tournament’s performance in the US Open and earned his maiden major title victory.
“There is nothing to stop me from bouncing right back," Scott said. "I'm looking forward to being right in the mix. I'm ready to go - I just want to get amongst it. This is it, our last major for the year, so I'm excited to get started".
