Adam Scott speaks of the inspiration he draws from Tennis star Rafael Nadal
Adam Scott has finally brought a successful end to his winless drought for this season with his comprehensive four-shot victory at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational last week. This was Scotts 20th professional win in his stellar career and the
first one on the PGA Tour in 2011.
But what has been more impressive throughout the weekend, has been his relentless hard work and perseverance which kept him going after several of his high profile misadventures in the current year.
Scott revealed that the he is a fan of the Tennis super star Rafael Nadal and claims that he draws much of the inspiration from the Spaniard who has won no less than ten Grand Slams in his short career.
“I like watching tennis, so I watch Rafa play, and that’s what you’ve got to play like. You’ve got to go for every shot, you can’t let up on one shot and that’s how you win because everyone is so good these days.” said Scott after his victory at the Firestone
Country Club on Sunday.
The player went on to add, “I played at a very high level today given the circumstances. It was like we’re used to seeing Tiger close out tournaments. He gets in front and just won’t let anyone in. I feel like you’ve got to play like a bulldog to win these
days.”
Scott was accompanied by his now-permanent caddie, Steve Williams on the bags, who gave Scott a chunk of his invaluable experience on the Firestone CC, where he led Tiger Woods to seven whopping victories during his 12-year-long association with the former
World number one.
Williams was fired last month by the top golfer for unknown reasons and Williams claims that his firing came necessarily because of his temporary acquaintance with Scott while Woods was in a rehab for his injuries.
Apparently, Scott is not the only fan of the Tennis wizard Nadal. Rory McIlroy, the reigning US Open champion, is also a close friend of Nadal and has revealed on numerous occasions about the inspiration that he draws from the Spaniard.
McIlroy and Nadal met in New York last year where the duo shared a conversation which later triggered a close friendship. Scott, although apparently quite impressed with Nadal’s gains in the recent past, is not really in a close friendship with the Tennis
star.
Scott has come out to be the leader in the Australian entourage both on the European Tour as well as on the PGA Tour. He is the fourth Australian to win the highest number of events on the PGA after Greg Norman (20), Steve Elkington (10), Stuart Appleby
(10) and Adam Scott (8). He posted a wire-to-wire victory at Firestone CC last week and cleared the field with a whooping four-shot lead.
Scott has now become the only fourth player after Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and Henrik Stenson to win both the Players Championship and a World Golf Championship event.
