Adam Scott splits with caddie before the Crowne Plaza Invitational
Australian ace Adam Scott has parted ways with his caddie Tony Navarro after availing his services for eight years. The 30-year-old confirmed the news about the split on Wednesday after attending the practice session at Colonial.
He said, “It's very difficult. I have had a great relationship with Tony. He has been my man. It is not easy. We had a great run together. The cliché, all good things come to an end.”
Scott did not disclose the reason behind the break-up as he wrapped up the statement with a smile.
The veteran had been working with Navarro since 2004 and he is known for being part of five of his seven career wins. Before carrying Scott’s bags, Navarro was the man seen carrying clubs for Greg Norman. But last week, Scott decided
to break the bond and hire the services of Michael Doran, who caddied Camilo Villegas until last week.
Scott confirmed the name of Doran during the same interview. He stated in an answer to a question inquiring about the caddie-change, “I have, yes. Michael is caddying for me this week.”
Scott also commented on the criticism he faced regarding the change of putter. The player experimented with a putter, whose use is seen nowhere in present times, but Scott decided to give it a shot and it worked for him. The putter
is known as the belly putter, which has a handle long enough to sweep the green.
The Aussie took the criticism lightly and said that it did not bother him what people said.
He added, “Yes, I guess a little. But I spent enough time with it at home, I didn't care. It just felt good. People are going to say something. It's irrelevant. If they got it in for me, no matter what I do, even if I use a stick.”
The winner of Valero Texas Open, Scott will be competing at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial with a new caddie and a long putter. The player would be hoping both, the caddie and the long putter, deliver for him in nthe
championship.
