Adam Scott wins the PGA Tour of Australasia’s Talisker Australian Masters
Adam Scott fired a five-under par 67 in the final round of the Talisker Australian Masters, to record a four-stroke victory over Ian Poulter, on Sunday, November 18, 2012.
The tournament was being played at the Kingston Heath Golf Club in Melbourne, featuring some of the big names on the PGA Tour of Australasia.
Following his victory, the Australian said that the win at the Australian Masters will further help him forget about his disastrous collapse at the British Open earlier this season.
Entering the final round, Scott was sharing the lead with Poulter. Meanwhile, when the Englishman faltered for an even-par score in the final round, Scott maintained his form and posted another good score on the leaderboard.
He got off to a brilliant start by carding birdies on each of the first two holes that he played. After conceding a bogey on the fourth hole, he bounced back strongly with a run of three birdies in a row, starting from the sixth hole.
Thereafter, he parred each of the next nine holes, prior to ending his round with another birdie on the 18th hole.
At the end of the day, he was way ahead of his rivals in the field, and took home the third PGA Tour of Australasia title of his career.
Talking to the reporters following his victory, the Australian said that it was good to taste success in the same season when he missed out on the chance of recording his first major title victory.
"I haven't been dwelling on what happened at the Open at all, I put that out of my head in the week afterwards - I had to, otherwise you'd never come back to a golf course, would you, it's kind of painful,” Scott told reporters next to the tournament's crystal
globe trophy.
He added, "I'd been working hard and I hadn't quite got back in that position until today, but I felt good out there. I just had to trust that all the work that I'd put into my game was going to hold up and not get in my own way, is the big thing”.
