Adam Scott wins the World Golf Championship Bridgestone Invitational
Adam Scott fired a round of five-under-par, 65 on Sunday to win the World Golf Championship Bridgestone Invitational with a four-stroke lead. The Aussie banked on €5,804,071 worth of prize money alongside 550 FedEx points.
Playing with a long putter and Tiger Woods’ former caddie Steve Williams, Scott stepped into the final round of the tournament in lead. Maintaining the edge overnight, the 31-year-old teed off from the front and birdied the second
hole to cap it with a score of 34.
The start was slow, but it was consistent and Scott knew that if he kept it that way, he would soon walk to the winner’s podium to write a new chapter in golf history. Sticking to his game plan, the Aussie walked towards the back
nine and picked a point right in the start.
However, things took a major turn on the 12th hole, when Scott earned a birdie to set pace for rest of the holes. Adam was stuck in a dilemma, while taking a shot on the par-3 layout. Thats where the expertise of his caddie
Williams came in, who told him to fade the ball rather than drawing it. Scott decided to follow the suggestion of Williams and smashed a shot that flew right into the heart of the green for a birdie. The Aussie picked two more birdies and sealed the day with
a 65.
Watching the results on the leaderboard, the Aussie golfer and his caddie pumped their fists in the air to celebrate victory.
Commenting on his win, the first Aussie to win a PGA and European Tour event outside Australia said, “Well, it was a great day on the golf course for me. I went to the range and had the best warm-up of the week. Ended up playing a
really solid round of golf for this golf course. With this win, I mean, I'm really stoked to have won a World Golf Championship and win around this course in nice fashion. The way I closed it out, I was really happy with, too, so overall extremely happy.”
With this win, Scott has climbed to the 17th spot in the Official World Golf Rankings and has earned a place in the President Cup.
