Adam Wainwright looks forward to crucial Game 4 of the NLCS – NLCS Update
The St. Louis Cardinals' starter Adam Wainwright on Wednesday, October 17, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s decision to task him with a start in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series.
Adam Wainwright, who had a tough start in Game 5 of the National League Division Series, gave up six runs before being replaced by the relievers. It was the bullpen that reset things for the Cards, and eventually led to the majestic win.
However, much as Game 5 of the NLDS proved tough for Wainwright and the team as a whole, the Cardinals reposed their confidence in him and will have him on the mound for Game 4.
"One thing I'm very confident about," he said, "I look at the last game and I didn't pitch well, but I am so confident that this team and organization is going to give me so many more chances in the playoffs to rebound from that that I really don't even worry about that last start.”
In the two post-season starts this year, he has a 7.88 ERA with a total of seven runs that he has given up. Nonetheless, his career record in post-season games is simply impressive wherein he has retained 2.81 ERA in 12 starts, having merely surrendered eight runs with 37 strike-outs to his credit.
Therefore, Game 5 of the NLDS is history now. Wainwright has reasons to believe that and wants to see ahead as Game 4 of NLCS is to be played at Busch Stadium on Thursday.
He said, “For one, we won the game. For two, I plan on having a long postseason career. I really think we have a team and an organization that's going to make that happen. You just look to your next start, and hopefully I have a whole lot more playoff starts to prove that.”
Adam Wainwright had Tommy John surgery the past year and could not have any game the whole year. His comeback this season has proved his instrumentality and effectiveness as the quality pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals at a time when the club is defending World Series championship.
