Adam Wicheard promises to perform well in the 2011-12 snooker season - Snooker News
World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) pro tour ticket winner, Adam Wicheard, is aiming high in the 2011-12 snooker season after he grabbed the professional tour spot by winning the quarter-final clash of the Q School at the World Snooker Academy, in Sheffield.
A strong display of potting skills in the first event of Q School brought Wicheard to the ultimate stage of the season’s tour qualification. The 25-year-old Wicheard made a superb run during the event and surged into the quarter-final of Q School’s initial stage.
Wicheard initiated with a first-round match against Tony Else. He defeated Else by 4-1, followed by his victories against Michael Leslie 4-1, John Astley 4-2 and Tian Pengfei 4-2, in the next three rounds, respectively.
The Towbridge cueist next met Scotsman, Fraser Patrick, in the quarter-final and trashed him 4-1 with some good knocks of 54, 79 and 42. The Gloucester-based Wicheard has gone pro for the second time in his career, as he was on the main tour last season too. Wicheard promises that he will learn from the errors he committed last year and will try to make a better tour this time.
While addressing to the media after his victory, Wicheard said, “Last season was poor, I was disappointed with the way I played. This time I will work harder with my coach, Frank Adamson, and try to improve. At least last season gave me a lot of match experience.”
Wicheard is now practising at the South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester, where the second event of the Players Tour Championships (PTC) will be held from August 8-10.
The cueist was satisfied with the practice sessions at the academy and added, “It's a really good set up and there are always different players there to practice with.”
The 2011-12 season will commence with the opening of PTC Event one at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield on Monday, June 20. This season, World Snooker is going to Australia for the first ever ranking event in the country, which is the Australian Goldfields Open 2011. The qualifiers of the Australian snooker event will be held in Sheffield on June 27.
