Adam Wilk hoping to become a better pitcher – MLB News
Detroit Tigers’ left starting pitcher Adam Wilk has been sent to Korea where he will start for a local baseball team, reports mlive.com. Wilk contract has been sold to the NC Dinoss in Changwon and he is expected to fly to Korea in a few days, the source
further claimed.
Wilk was presented with several opportunities to cement his place on the Tigers’ big league roster but he failed to live up to the expectations. Therefore, the Tigers had no option but to trade him.
Wilk made eight Major League Baseball appearances in 2012, going 0-3 with a forgettable 6.66 ERA. His inability to control his nerves under pressure seems to be the reason why the Tigers decided to sell his contract.
In an interview with a leading sports website, Wilk stated that he loved playing for the Tiger sin his tenure in Detroit. He added that the Tigers have assured him that there will be opportunities for him to return if he can improve his skills.
The left hander is hoping that his one year of pitching in Korean baseball team will help him become a more consistent and a better starter. Wilk believes it is an ideal time for him to go over to Korea and pitch there.
“Wilk made his debut in the majors May 26, 2011, in a 14-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox. He allowed one run and struck out four in 3 2/3 innings in relief of starter Max Scherzer in that game”, Chris Iott of mlive.com.
"My time with the Tigers was great," Wilk said after the Tigers made the official announcement. "I would have never imagined making it to the major leagues in less than two years of professional baseball, and making my debut with Detroit in Comerica was
and always will be one of my best memories ever.”
After making a decent time on the mound in his debut appearances in May 2011 against the Boston Red Sox, Wilk lost his way completely. It will be interesting to see if he can get back on to the right track to revive his Major League Baseball career.
