Adam Wilk’s contract sold to Korean League team – MLB News
The Detroit announced a few Minor League moves, reports a leading sports website. According to the sources, the Tigers have released starting pitcher Adam Wilk, whose contract has been sold to a team in the Korean Baseball League.
The other Minor Leaguer involved in the move is left handed relief pitcher Matt Hoffman who has officially sent to the Triple A Toledo.
The 25 year old Wilk will be slightly disappointed with the fact he has been sold to a Korean Baseball League team. In his tenure in Detroit, he had several opportunities to prove his mettle but could not do so.
An 11th round pick in June 2009, Wilk finished 0-3 with a forgettable 8.18 ERA in his three starts in 2012. He also made five relief appearances in 2011 for the Tigers, posting a poor 5.40 ERA. He performed well in his four minor league seasons,
going 30-23 with an excellent 2.66 ERA and 385 starts in 83 starts. Sadly, he was unable to produce similar results in the Majors.
“Wilk is a 25 year old left-handed starting pitcher who was an 11th round pick in the June 2009 amateur draft., having cups of coffee with Tigers the past two seasons. In three 2012 starts Wilk was 0-3 with an 8.18 ERA. He made five relief appearances with
the Tigers in 2011, posting a 5.40 ERA. In four minor league seasons Wilk was 30-23 with a 2.66 ERA and 385 strikeouts in 83 starts. Wilk was given a shot at the 5th starter job in spring training, but lost out to Drew Smyly”, Al Beaton of blessyouboys.com
said.
Competing wit the youngster Drew Smyly, Wilk had a great chance to grab the No.5 starting spot on the Tigers pitching rotation but that did not turn out to be the case as Smyly won the battle. He then spent majority of the season in the Triple A Toledo where
he went 7-11 in 24 starts. He was named the Tigers’ Minor League Player of the Month for August. It will be interesting to see if Wilk can learn from his mistakes to revive his baseball career.
