http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 midfielder, Charlie Adam revealed that he has set his sights on winning the Champions League berth with the Reds this coming season, and was raring to make a strong comeback in the team.
The 18 times league champions went through a catastrophic spell of defeats since the turn of the year, pushing them down to an eighth place finish last season. Their paltry tally of 52 points meant that they ended up behind the eventual title winners, Manchester
City by a hefty margin of 37 points.
Liverpool have now failed to secure a place in the coveted European tournament in their third successive attempt.
However, with the Reds introducing cardinal changes in the entire set up and putting the club in charge of a young Brendan Rodgers, the Scottish International was optimistic of a much better show from his side in the upcoming term.
He also set himself the target of earning a Champions League slot with the Reds, and thought that it was their rightful place.
While talking to reporters, he said: “We should be challenging for the Champions League, no doubt about that. We need to set our standards as high as we can, participate in every tournament we are in and try to win everything available to us.”
The 26-year old remained on the sidelines during the closing stages of the 2011/12 campaign, after being hampered by an injury. However, he is currently a part of the squad for the Merseyside club’s North American tour, where he is expected to feature in
his side’s pre-season friendly fixtures.
Adam admitted that he was frustrated on missing out on the action over the last couple of months, but claimed that he had participated in each and every training session since making a full recovery.
He further added that he was looking forward to make up for his lost time on the field by grabbing a place in the starting eleven, and called upon his side to rally behind their new manager, as he looks to implement his playing philosophy at Anfield.
“The new manager coming in is going to want to play the way he wants to play, and the lads have got to adapt to that, try to show why they want to be at this club, play as well as they can, and train as hard as they can.”
