Add numbers to cells in Excel?

Is there a way to number each cell in Excel 07?

I basically want a small number in the corner, 1, 2, 3, etc

You can do it with comments (in the review tab) but that take FOREVER - doing every single one individually!

Any ideas would be great! Cheers

  1. there isn't anyway to do what you want to do....one cell can only hold one value.  That's just the way it is.  You'll either have to do it as a comment or enter your 2nd value in a cell next to it and then shrink the width of that column down to 1 or 2 characters.  Turn off the gridlines, left align the cell, and it'll sort of look like it "belongs" to the other cell.  But you can't "section off" part of a cell.

  2. Say you want to make a 10x10 matrix with the numbers,

    Type 1 in A1

    Type A1+1 in B1

    Drag B1 till J1

    Then Type J1+1 in A2

    Select B1 to J1

    Drag till J10

    Drag A2 till A10

    Select all cells, press "Ctrl+1"

    Goto to Alignment

    Select Horizontal as "Right"

    Press Ok.

    Goto Format menu,

    Select Row

    Select Height

    enter "35"

    Press "Enter".

    You are done.

Similarly you can do for any numberof cells or entire sheet.

But you can not have any other values in them.
