Adderall refill at pharmacy--how early can it be refilled?

I got an Rx for adderall on July 1st, and saw my doctor this week and he wrote me another script, it was dated 7/22 (he wont be in next week when i would usually see him). The date is legit; but whats the pharmacy's rule for releasing adderall? i believe they will give it to me a few days before the 30 day period has expired but does anyone know specifics?

  1. I was going to answer, but Az R just about nailed it. It's the same deal in Texas.

While I never underestimate an insurance company's ability to have a problem with something that they have to pay for, it seems to me that if your doc says you should take this drug and writes you the script for it - and since it's not some weird, uncommon thing, they SHOULDN'T have a problem.

Come to think of it, I actually got 2 prescriptions for Adderall filled only days apart one time. The doc's nurse just had a brain f**t & instead of writing 30, she wrote 20 & it didn't get noticed until after I got it filled. I called the docs office & they wrote me another script for the other 10. But that's in Texas with MY insurance company and a known mistake being made, so, as they say on TV - "Your results may vary".

    Good luck

  2. It's not so much your pharmacy's policy as it is your insurance company's. Most insurance companies give you a 2-7 day window before the prescription is used up to refill or submit a new prescription.

So if you fill the first on 7/1, you would be eligible for a refill between the 23rd and the 28th.

Since Adderall is a schedule II controlled substance, there are no refills, and the primary restriction on getting them filled is that it must be done within 7 days of the doctor putting his signature on the prescription slip. Since your doctor wrote the prescription on the 22nd, you would have to fill it before the 29th.

I know of no legal limits on how 'soon' they will dispense the drug (your state laws may vary from California). If your pharmacy does have some policy or legal obligation your best bet would be to talk to the pharmacist when you go down there. If they do have a restriction in place, they will frequently take your prescription, fill the bottle, and allow you to pick it up when you're eligible, side stepping the whole 7 day time limit.

  3. Well its a C2 drug. It may go threw your insurance but realy its up to the pharmacist if he will fill it early. MOST pharmacist will alow 2-3 days early for C2 and C3 meds like adderall, oxycodone, hydrocodone, xanax, and so on. So realy it would be up to your pharmacist first if they will fill it early. Best thing to do is call the pharmacy where you get it and speak to the pharmacist and explain whats going on.
