Question:

Addicted to Coca Cola... how do I help?

My dad drinks insane amounts of the stuff. At least, I believe buying 8-12 bottles a week when neither my mom nor I drink it is simply crazy. I feel it's messing up his life, pushing him towards a stage of diabetes, and whatever drinking far too much caffeine does to a person.

Can anyone help me with a link that explains the dangers of abusing pop like this? My dad says it's his guilty pleasure, though not his those words, but I reeeeeally doubt he knows all he subjects himself to. Thanks!

  1. Tell him how it is horrible for you like 2 candy bars.

  2. He knows the risk.

You must learn that you cannot rescue people who don't want to be rescued.

But since you have concern, just look up the health risk and mention it to hiim.  After that, leave the situation alone.  He has to take responsibility for himself.

  3. IDK what can you dohope he quits on his own or see a dr.

  4. hi.. i've been through that problem when i was younger.. i drink about 6-12 bottles of coke a day for 4 years.. and then i stopped and upto now i don't crave for coke or any soda.. i don't drink any of its kind anymore for 7 years.. and i am certain that the addiction will never come again because i had my inspiration..

I sing that's why.. it's not good for the voice so i was eager to stop drinking it after knowing the side effects for my voice.. the next thing i know is that it has been years that i haven't drink a single drop of it.. i love eating on restaurants but never ordered coke which is offered in their value meals.. now, i don't sing anymore but still i don't drink soda.. during a party, the only drink available was coke so i got no choice but when i drink it---- omg! i felt bad.. my body doesn't really want to drink it forever!! it has become a hobby for me to avoid and not want those drinks anymore.. I've done the ff.:

    1. Have an inspiration

    2. Know the negative effects for inspiration

    3. Discipline

    4. Be happy with alternatives

    5. Healthy hobby

    6. Victorious defeat of addiction!!

It still depends on the person though.. But if you are very concerned, help him get his inspiration and let him know the facts about coca cola.. He must not be selfish-- he has to think of his family who needs him.. Which is more important to him? you or coke??

  5. You can lead a horse to water but it won't make him drink. I think it's kind of fitting here. All you can do is educate your dad on the ingredients in Cola and tell him what those ingredients do to the body. Ask him not to quit, but maybe just to slow down. Tell him to treat every meal like he's in a restaurant, that he should drink his soda and his water.  You might also have him try decaffeinated soda (buy him a weeks worth) and see if he likes it. You could also try having him try another beverage at least once a week, he may find something else he likes that is actually better for him.

    Good luck.

  6. "People do indeed become addicted to caffeine very rapidly, and they also withdraw from caffeine very rapidly," said Dr. Harris Stratyner, an addiction specialist at Mount Sinai Medical Center. "It can make their sleep patterns disturbed. It can make them restless, wired, anxious."

"There is some evidence that the acid load of soda, regular or diet, has an adverse affect on bone health," said Dr. David Katz, nutrition expert at the Yale School of Medicine. "I would be very worried that if you are drinking 12 cans a day, diet or regular, it's potentially going to do damage to your skeleton, and eventually that can be a very serious problem.

  7. No one should even drink coke, let alone all the sugar that's in it as white sugar causes all kinds of hormone problems including addrenaline regulation problems which when combined with caffine are devastating to your system. That is just one part of the problem with coke, and there is so much more.

Read these links about the effects of coke and the addiction and health problems that come with it.

    Good Luck
