Adding Acetone to gas?

im sure this is a dumb idea but not so crazy as to completely discredit it.

i was reading (sceptically) about how Acetone helps gas burn more effectively. like i said i doubt it because if this was the case Americans and people the world over would be buying it like crazy & "BIG OIL" would already have monopolized it.

my bet is that its more harmful than beneficial...but has anyone archived any results regarding experiments with this theory ?

  1. I tried it in my motorcycle, no difference.  I found out that I got better gas by buying it at a different station, about 5 mpg more.

  2. Myth busters tried this one, adding acetone to gasoline lowered their mileage slightly. They also tried magnets, Browns gas( Hydrogen) and Tornado vortex generators, as one would expect, none of them work.

  3. Acetone is a very strong organic solvent which will attack rubber compounds.  If you put that in your car long enough, you stand a good chance of damaging the gaskets, lines and seals.

Don't do it unless you don't mind a pretty big repair bill.
