Question:

Adding More Volume To Car Door Speakers?

I currently have two pair of 6.5" Alpine SPS-17C2 (coaxial 2-way) door speakers in my car. There are 250 watts peak, 50 watts RMS each. I want to add more volume to them without changing the head-unit and was wondering if an amp can be used for adding the volume?

One guy told me that an amp wouldn't do much for my speakers, but another guy and myself couldn't see why an amp wouldn't help. Anyway, if an amp can be used, what watt amp would you advise, so that I don't blow my speakers?

Thanks!

  1. you cant add more volume to speakers if they're already getting their recommended power. say...if yours are getting 50 watts RMS, you dont want to put more power on them. you'll damage the speakers. they're rated at 50 watts, and should only get 50 watts going to them. if you want them to be louder, add another set, or upgrade to better coaxials or get a component set

  2. KEErist....we already hear you blaring as you drive by...do you want to blow out my windows TOO?

Save the noise tickets AND your hearing, and forget it.

  3. i would just leave em or find a small amp 50 rms watts i would only run a 30-45 rms amp good luck trying to find that small of an amp might try a cross over that would work best
