Adding RSS Feeds?

Question

how do you know which url/link to type in when adding a RSS feed. I want to add an RSS feed for a couple of things on the my yahoo page but everytime I click on the RSS feed button on these websites, these long codes pop up with so many things on it. How do you know which one to use? cuz it always says " put in a valid url" on the my yahoo page..
