Question:

Adding a Sidekick data line to a family plan?

I have a Sidekick LX with the Sidekick data plan, no voice plan.

I use another phone for everyday use that is on a family plan, but now I want to use my Sidekick as my main phone.

To do this, I need minutes, so I plan on adding another line for $9.99 a month to my family plan to use the minutes provided.

Am I able to somehow merge my Sidekick data plan with a new family plan line?

If so, can this be done over the phone with T-Mobile? And how long will it take because I plan on taking my Sidekick with me Thursday, and I want to have it done as soon as possible.

Thanks in advanced.

  1. Yes, you can do this by calling 611, it will not take long at all to move lines and change features.

Yes, you could move the Sidekick data line number to your account with the family plan on it, at which point it would no longer have the Sidekick plan as it would be on the family plan as a $9.99 extra line, and you could add the Sidekick addon feature to it, which is $19.99.

So basically it would end up the same cost as the $29.99 Sidekick Unlimited plan you have on the other account now, except it would also share minutes with the family plan.

You could also instead add the Sidekick feature to the number you use every day now, and move the SIM card to the Sidekick, though this would leave your Sidekick data plan number unused. I would certainly not add another line, as it sounds like you already have an extra line.

  2. In addition to Anna D's advice above (which is spot on):

You would be able to merge the lines as long as you have the credit limit on your account; you wouldn't need to worry about this unless you're on a flexpay account, or if any of the lines are on a flexpay account and others aren't. The customer care agent or activations/credit agent would be able to tell you if you can combine your lines.

Just a head's up that it's not a guarantee that you can combine lines without us knowing all the details.
