Addition of new players in East Carolina women’s volleyball team – Volleyball news
The Head Coach of East Carolina volleyball program, Pati Rolf, announced on Thursday, January 5 that three new players have signed the letter of intention to play for East Carolina in the fall of 2012 season.
According to the announcement, Kierra Lee-Dunson, Sierra Lee-Dunson and Torre Blake will be joining the East Carolina Pirates.
Kierra Lee-Dunson and Sierra Lee-Dunson are the twin sisters and teammate, who come from Lakeside High School in Atlanta, Georgia. Both of them helped the Vikings with a perfect record in the junior and senior season.
Sierra Lee-Dunson is an excellent middle-blocker and served as key player at the Lakeside High School volleyball team. During her tenure at the Lakeside, she enabled the team to qualify for the Georgia AAAA Elite Eight and also played a vital role in third-place
finish at the 6-AAAA playoffs. She totalled 156 kills and 57 blocks in her two seasons with Vikings. She also played as the captain of her team for quite some time.
Like her sister, Kierra is gifted with great volleyball skills. She was known as top offense player of Lakeside. In the 2011, she racked up 162 kills, 19 service aces, and 29.5 blocks. She also earned the honour of being named as Most Valuable Player in
the junior varsity squad. She played at middle blocker’s position and also proved her endeavours as the right-side hitter.
Blake was previously attached with Austin High School, where she played as a middle-blocker (MB) for the team. She helped her Texas follows to achieve 48-26 record in the last two seasons. Qualification for the national tournaments in 2009 and 2010, top
position at the Lone Star event in 2010 are some of the highlights of her career at Austin. Currently, she is in her fifth season of playing club volleyball is a member of the 18 Mizuno club. She already had strong connection with Eastern Carolina as she is
the daughter of former Pirate and NFL quarterback Jeff Blake.
The Pirates’ Coach, Rolf, stated, “We are very excited to have these three outstanding student athletes join our program here at East Carolina. They bring a tremendous level of physicality to our team as well as a committed love of ECU. All three are very
dedicated students and will be strong members of their class. I am very proud of the current team for an outstanding job in helping bring in such a gifted class.”
Eastern Carolina had a very disappointing 2-27 record in 2011 season but they are certainly up to bring some improvement this year.
