Ade Gardner inks two-year contract with St. Helens - Rugby League News
Ade Gardner has sealed a two-year contract with St. Helens today, September 13. With this latest deal sealed, Gardner will be stepping into his second decade with the Saints.
In 2001, Gardner joined in with Saints and is celebrating his successful run at the franchise, with 162 tries in a total of 267 caps. He has also won a Challenge Cup, Super League and World Club Challenge.
Gardner was left out of the 17-man squad for last year’s Grand Final. Also, he has been sitting out of the Saints’ line-up since May but Saint’s coach , is convinced the player will recover from his injury to take part in the Super League play-offs.
Along with Gardner’s announcement, Shaun Magennis’ uptake for Saints has also been publicised.
While speaking about the latest recruits by Saints, their coach,
Royce Simmons, added that Gardner and Shaun are sitting outside Saints on account of injuries but this will not dampen their hopes because the duo will return soon. He further stated, "Before his Achilles tear, Ade was running the ball in 15 and 16 times
a game and making 150 metres for his team. He was also finishing off some nice tries and producing the type of form that brought him international recognition. Magennis had forced his way into the 19-man squad each week and was starting to show the potential
we knew he was capable of.”
Saints’ coach when mentioned about Magennis’ performance also talked about the dedication which impressed him the most, when both picks were down with season ending injuries. This attribute is one of the contributing factor in narrowing down to the decision
which has been reached by Simmon.
The coach also explained that both picks have worked really hard to be part of the pre-season, whereas it was also hinted about Ade that he will return before the end of the current season.
High hopes are attached to the players who are expected to make their comeback after their serious season ending injuries are recovered. It was also added by Saints’ coach that they are looking forward for the duo’s return and stay for next two years.
