http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emmanuel-Adebayor-c12526 has returned to Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent basis, after the Togolese finally accepted a pay-cut in making his switch to North London.
Adebayor had spent last season on loan with the North London club and had an impressive run in which he grabbed 17 Premier League goals in
33 appearances, finishing off the season as Spurs' leading scorer.
The player had previously served three-and-a-half years at local rivals http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and had scored a number of goals against Tottenham. Adebayor however quickly became a fan favourite when he moved to White Hart Lane.
The Togolese had stated his desire to make a permanent switch to White Hart Lane, but there were problems with his transfer. It is understood that Adebayor was unwilling to take a pay cut in his wages to move to Tottenham, despite the fact that Spurs were
willing to pay him a massive £2.5 million signing on fee.
A move to North London did not look like it would materialize as other reports suggested that Adebayor was happy to stay at City and see his contract out, despite being informed that he was not part of manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Mancini’s plans.
The forward finally completed his move to Tottenham yesterday in what is reported to be a £5 million deal. Speaking to the club’s website, Adebayor said:
“I am pleased to be signing for Spurs on a permanent basis after finally agreeing my departure with Manchester City.”
“It may have taken longer than expected but I am delighted to be back at Tottenham Hotspur. I really enjoyed my time here last season and I am hoping we can achieve great things together again.”
This move solves a lot of problems for Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas, who was shortly under-staffed in the striker department. The manager only had http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermain-Defoe-c18359 to count on as Spurs failed in their attempts to sign a striker.
Adebayor is Villas-Boas’s third signing of the summer after Icelandic international Gylfi Sigurdsson and Belgian centre-half http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814.
Having experienced defeat in their Premier League opener against Newcastle United, Tottenham will be looking for a victory in their next game. The club will host West Brom at home, and Villas-Boas will be targeting all three points.
